College military resource center

As part of Park University’s Department for Military and Veteran Student Services, the Global Warrior Center provides information and resources for service members and veterans transitioning in and out of the military.

Global Warrior Center

The Park Global Warrior Center helps inform students about their educational benefits, works with students being deployed or returning from a tour of duty, and provides references or assistance in anything else the veteran requires.

The Global Warrior Center helps veterans on such topics as: education, employment, finances, access to healthcare and counseling services, assists with employment opportunities, post-traumatic stress disorder and transition assistance.

The Park Global Warrior Center features laptops, a reference library, a relaxation station and other amenities to best serve the needs of service members, veterans, wounded warriors, family members, caregivers, dependents and spouses.

“Park’s Warrior Center is a place for people to get to know and rely on each other for help and support. When people join the military or become a veteran, they are part of a big family, and families take care of each other.”

– Sarah Weygand, Director of Military & Veteran Student Services

The Yellow Ribbon Program allows approved institutions of higher learning and the VA to partially or fully fund tuition and fee expenses that exceed the established thresholds under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Yellow Ribbon is used when your actual tuition and fees costs exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. This means that even if the student’s Post 9/11 GI Bill is at the 100% eligibility level, the student would still have to pay out of pocket. Yellow Ribbon is a program to assist with these out of pocket costs.

Park University is a participating Yellow Ribbon school, however, because Park’s tuition cost is far below the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate, students do not need to utilize the program.

Yellow Ribbon does not extend Post 9/11 benefits if they have been exhausted.

For more information about the Yellow Ribbon Program, please visit:  https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/yellow_ribbon.asp

Yes, the MyCAA Scholarship can be used to assist military dependent students with their tuition at Park University!

If you fail a class you receive what is called a “punitive grade” for that class. A punitive grade is a grade that doesn’t count as earned credit, but is used in determining a student’s progress toward graduation requirements. This means that the grade you receive counts in your overall degree progress, albeit negatively. Since this grade counts towards your graduation progress you are not required to repay any GI Bill money you received for that class.

You may take the class again in an attempt to raise your grade and you will receive GI Bill payment for the retaking of the class.

Please note that retaking failed classes will use months/days of your benefits.

Yes! Park University affords students the opportunity to complete the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program while earning a baccalaureate degree.

  • Completion of the four-year program leads to a commission as a second lieutenant in the active Army, Army Reserves, Army National Guard or the United States Air Force.
  • Cadets must meet military medical, fitness and weight standards prior to entrance into Advanced ROTC.
  • ROTC scholarships are also available to students who have excellent academic records as freshmen and sophomores, and who exhibit outstanding leadership potential in school or community activities. For more information about ROTC Scholarships, please see the attached scholarship data sheet.

Prior military service in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard may automatically waives the first two years (freshman and sophomore) of ROTC courses, and permits direct entrance into Advanced Military Science (junior and senior) courses. This will be determined by the ROTC recruiting and enrollment officer.

Army ROTC Program Summary

Army ROTC is offered to Parkville Daytime Campus Center students by special arrangement. Park KC Area students in a full-time equivalent status may qualify and at Park Campus Centers where cross-town agreements have been established.

  • Attendance at a five-week Summer ROTC Advanced Camp is required between junior and senior years.
  • Park University awards four semester hours of lower level electives for completion of Basic Military Science and six semester hours of upper level electives for completion of Advanced Military Science. These 10 hours may be applied toward the graduation elective requirement.
  • There are no course fees; textbooks and uniforms are government-furnished.
  • Upon entering junior-level Advanced ROTC, cadets are contracted by the Army to accept a commission upon graduation with a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree.
  • For students enrolled in the ROTC program receive the Active Duty special tution rate of $250/credit hour.
